Located in the neighborhood adjacent to Vatican City, the steps act as a public pedestrian way that connects the lower residential areas with a few mass transit bus lines on the street that perimeter the Vatican City walls.
The construction is relatively modern, dating to the 1950's. On the bottom of the steps is an open area, currently used by senior citizens to meet and talk, and for seasonal market events.
