One of the many public stairways that connect the neighborhood of Trastevere with the streets on the hill of Monteverde.

Designed in the 1910's, the monumentality in style is blended with the nearby Ministero della Pubblica Istruzione [trans: Department of Public Education], also in monumental style, and also using white travertino stone.

At the base of the steps is a plaque honoring Sergio Leone, film director of the Spaghetti Western genre, with titles such as "For a Few Dollars More", and "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly". The plaque reads: "Il mio modo di vedere le cose talvolta è ingenuo, un po' infantile, ma sincero. Come i bambini della scalinata di viale glorioso" [trans: My way of seeing thigs is sometimes childish, a bit infantile, but sincere. Just like the kids of the Viale Glorioso steps"].

His first screenplay, written at age of 19, was titled "Viale Glorioso", but never produced into a film. It narrated the story of boys hanging around the steps. Portions of the narrative were eventually incorporated into some of his westerns, particularly "Down you Sucker".
