The church has been built by boyar family of Naryshkins in the end of 17th century. It is the first building of early Russian baroque, combining Russian traditions with European influence - usually called Moscow Baroque or Naryshkin baroque.
In WW II the chhurch has been heavily damaged and the restoration took place in the 1970s. Since 1980 there is a branch of Andrey Rublev Art Museum in the church.
