We were attending a wedding in San Rafael and asked for a suggestion of a nice B&B nearby. The Gerstle Park Inn was the first recommendation we received. We were able to make reservations that same day. The Gerstle Park Inn is an historic residence built in 1890 and renovated in 1995. It offers 8 guest suites and 4 cottages on the estate.

Since we were traveling with a youngster, they suggested the Lodge Suite, as it had an adjacent parlor, a large jacuzzi tub, as well as a private entrance and deck. We arrived late, gathered our room key and quickly settled in. A personal note to us said the kitchen was open late for drinks and snacks, so my son and I raided the kitchen for cookies and milk.

Below are pictures taken as we left, so the room is not as neat and tidy as it is when we walked in.

The Lodge Suite
Parlor Room Entrance
The entry door is a split door so you can open the top for fresh air if you desire. There is a small flat screen TV with DVD player.
Parlor Sitting Area
There are comfortable chairs and couch with magazines and a decanter of wine.

Breakfast Room Windows
The view out the window feels like you're in a tree house!

There are yogurt and cereal choices with the granola cereal being homemade at the Inn. Our menu consisted of several scrambled egg combos along with Belgian waffles, pancakes and French toast. There were side orders of bacon, country fried potatoes and English muffins. Orange juice, milk and coffee drinks are available.

After breakfast we then visited other rooms of the main house and the outdoor grounds.

After our morning walk around the Inn grounds, I went geocaching at nearby Gerstle Park, a mere tenth of a mile away. The history of the Inn, the Park and the area is very interesting. There are scrapbooks at the Inn showing some recent history as well as stories on the web telling the story of the Gerstle and Sloss families in this area.

We enjoyed our stay at the Gerstle Park Inn and our interaction with the Innkeepers, Jim and Judy Dowling, very much. The wireless Internet connection worked fine in our suite. The amenities are abundant and the decor is beautiful. Their website is very lovely and includes QuickTime VR panorama movies of all the rooms, so visit their website for even more detailed information and beautiful pictures.
