This is a lava tube type cave formed 1900 years ago by an eruption of Mt. St. Helens. It is the longest lava tube in the U.S. and one of the longest in the world.

Ape Cave can be found in the Mt. St. Helen's National Monument near Cougar, Washington. It is open to the public. The upper cave is 1.5 miles long and requires difficult climbing over large rock formations. The lower cave is .75 miles long and is an easy to moderate hike.
