Morning Sun Cemetery contains many early settlers of Shelby County. Some of the graves were moved from Grays Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery (see (
visit link) in the 1840's when that church was established as an African-American Church.
The graves of 12 unknown Union soldiers, who were killed at the Battle of Morning Sun, are located within, however, there is some discrepancy in the dates. The date on the markers are June 6, 1862, but the battle was fought on July 1, 1862 according to a history (http://www.bgsu.edu/colleges/library/cac/cwar/057ovi.html) of the 57th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.
The Morning Sun Cemetery is well kept with old growth trees scattered throughout the cemetery. Total interrment numbers about 250.
