Then (quoting the Guide):
The St. Albans Free Library, Maiden Lane (open weekdays 2-6 and 7-9 p.m.), occupies the lower floor of a handsome brick and Longmeadow sandstone structure that was one of Governor Smith's many gifts to the city. Among the 12,000 volumes is the Frank L. Green Collection of Vermontiana, containing some 300 books and pamphlets, many of them exceedingly rare, relative to the history and literature in the State.
Now:
Aside from occupying the entire building and more than one addition (the most recent in 2000), the library is open six days a week, with free Wi-Fi and a complete online catalog (including downloadable audiobooks). The regular collection has grown to more than 38,400 volumes.
