From the Big Tree Recreational Area, a trail leads down to Elk Creek Falls. From the parking area, follow the trail to the Big Tree (the world's largest Port Orford cedar tree) and sign this register at the trail junction.

The road up to this recreation area is narrow, winding, and not in good repair. It is heavily used by logging operations, so watch for large trucks and use extreme caution!

There is an ample gravel parking area, and a well marked trail to the Big Tree, towering 232 feet with an amazing circumference of 43 1/2 feet. The trail register is at the junction with the Elk Creek trail which leads back down to the falls and the Forest Service Road 33.

As of my visit, there is a cache here, and one at the falls below, placed by another geocacher.
