Soapstone Mountain used to be the site of a working soapstone quarry, and the quarried stone was formed into useful products in the valley below. The mountain used to be in the town of Dana, disincorporated when the valley was flooded by the newly-constructed reservoir. Today it is in the town of Petersham. A beautiful panorama of the reservoir is viewable from the summit, accessible from the recreation trails that border the reservoir, via Mass. Rt 122, at DRC gates 33, 35 or 37.
