Sparta Georgia is a small east central Georgia town with good old down-home folks who know and respect each other. The town has historic roots as indicated on the historic marker pictured here. Spata escaped the torch of General Sherman's troops during the slash and burn of The March to the Sea during the Civil War due to the bravery of one of the Spartan citizens who perpretated a hoax on the advancing Federals making them think they were outnumbered. Consequently they turned and left Sparta untouched.
This tiny city hall is probably just what the city needs to govern the fine folks here.
The town is named in honor of the centuries old city of Sparta who's citizens were known for their bravery under fire.
