Slapy lake surroundings, mainly its part next to the concrete dam in Trebenice, are concentrated fully for holidays and relax. You find here several military recreation houses and many accommodation resorts, concentrated especially in communities of Rabyne, Merín, Ždán and Županovice. You can find here famous camping places and other weekend and holiday facilites as beaches, boat-rentals, yacht clubs and restaurants which are popular among citizens of not so distant city of Prague.
The left bank of the dam is not as lively as the right, where an abundance of recreation facilities and private cottages have been built. It is ideal for long walks and mushroom picking. With the exception of driving motorboats, the Slapy Dam offers opportunities to enjoy the widest variety of water sports and activities.
A special chapter of this water-work is its concrete dam. First decision about Slapy construction comes just of 1933. Anyway, water-work Slapy was built 22 years later, during 1949-1954. Concrete dam, based on rocky bedrock, is 260 m long and 65 m high and has an original construction. Narrow valley, where the dam is situated, called for special and unique solution of this water-work, not typical in Europe at that time.
As soon as the dam construction finished, hydroelectric power plant was fully operating. Under four overflows with a capacity of 3000 cubic m/sec, directly in dam-body, is hidden power plant's machine-room together with all services, administrative rooms, internal 110 kV and 22 kV converter station, transformers and two basic flood-gates. The power plant is equipped with three Kaplan's turbines of total power 3×48 MW for a slope of 56 metres. Fully automatised power plant produces and participates in management of executing balance of state energetic system. From HQs in Štechovice, its power is managed in accordance with needs in remote way. This power plant is capable to be in full operation within 136 seconds. Dam also is used in flood protection.
