A romain-gotique church. The oldest remains are from 1127-1166 and on the west side of the church. Originally the Sint Salvator was just a common parish church. Founded in the 10 century. At the end of the 18 th century the French occupiers threw out the bishop of Bruges and destroyed the Sint-Donatus church, which was his seat.
In 1834, shortly after Belgium's independence in 1830, a new bishop was installed in Bruges and the Sint Salvator obtained the status of cathedral. In the choir, the original 16 th century podium can still be admired.
