Saline County was established in 1847 from a portion of Gallatin County. The county was named for the Saline River so called due to the number of salt springs in the area. The county seat was in Raleigh from 1847 to 1859 and has been in Harrisburg since.
The current modern style brick courthouse was built in 1967.
