Edward Drummond Libbey (1854-1925) is the father of the glass industry, he opened the Libbey Glass Company now Libbey Inc in 1888 in Toledo Ohio.

After opening the Libbey Glass Co, he went on to found the Owens Bottle Machine Co in 1903 now Owens-Illinois with exclusive rights to manufacture glass bottles, and the Libbey-Owens Sheet Glass Co in 1916, serving as president of both firms.

He was the founder of the Toledo Museum of Art in 1901, serving as its president, funding building construction, and bequeathing to the museum his collection of Dutch and English art.

Libbey was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts after opening the Libbey Glass Co, he went on to found the Owens Bottle Machine Co in 1903 now Owens-Illinois with exclusive rights to manufacture glass bottles, and the Libbey-Owens Sheet Glass Co in 1916, serving as president of both firms.
