Truly cool location! A fieldstone culvert to support the trestle for the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad built to cross Wicked Creek, later named Stegman Creek. Built in 1885. Stegman Creek incidently looked cean enough to drink right out of.
Historical Date: 01/01/1885

Historical Name: Builder James House

Description:
GRAND RAPIDS & INDIAN RAILROAD CULVERT The Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad (GR&I) reached Algoma Township in 1867. A series of wooden trestles were built to cross Wicked Creek, later named Stegman Creek. In 1885, after repeated fires and floods, the GR&I hired James House to cut fieldstones from his farm and build this culvert to stabilize the trestle. Eventually, the GR&I abandoned the trestle and buried it intact within a wall of dirt above the culvert.

NEW: Instructions for logging Missing Marker Visits.

If the Marker is missing, but still listed here, you must provide a photo of you at the actual item historically honored. (This should be the waymark's "default" image). Indicate in your log that you took your photo at the Historical Location instead of the marker, because the marker was missing. Please also still include a bit about your visit to the site.
