This is one of four properties, supporting the green dog program, that are owned by
The Trustees of Reservations
. This one is located on the 259 acre
Grass Rides portion of Appleton Farms. It is a great haven for dogs, and horse riding is not allowed. In the adjoining section of
Appleton Farms, dogs are not allowed but horse riding is. The parking area is on Highland Street in Hamilton, just north of the intersection with Cutler Road.
Most trails are very wide, as they were originally created for horse drawn carriages. Folks of any age are welcome, but it might not be appropriate for strollers (nothing is paved including the parking lot). Many people walk and hike here, both with and without dogs. It is generally a very quiet, serene, and peaceful place. Five miles of trails can hold a lot of people and dogs without running into each other very often. Be sure to pick up a trail map, either from the web site link above, or at the parking area. The first 1/4 mile, from the parking lot to the woods, is an "On leash" zone.
To walk your dog, you must be a member of the Trustees of Reservations, and get a "green dog permit" (no charge). See the web site link above for details on membership and also the green dog program.
There are many more waymarks on the Farms property. See the "Nearest Waymarks" link near the bottom of this page. There are also at least four geocaches. Enjoy the Farms. Its a great place to visit.
