James McCray was born in Scotland in 1765. He came to America and fought in the Revolutionary War.

After the Revolution, James McCray married Eleanor Townsley on 17 Nov 1792 in Cumberland Co, Pennsylvania. They moved to Concord Township, Erie Co, Pennsylvania. Today they are buried in the McCray Cemetery. The Cemetery, the McCray United Methodist Church were started on this land by one of James McCray's relatives, Robert McCray.
