The winter of 2008-09 was hard on many outdoor objects in NW Oregon, and this duffer was no exception. I've been told that in past years this was unmistakable as a golfer lining up a shot, but much of the ivy died because of the Christmas ice storm. Most of the original shape has returned, but more time and work is needed. The club is considering a covering or shelter for future severe weather.
