Interesting, but the current function of the original El Paso County Courthouse as listed in the National Register is WRONG. It is listed as Vacant / Not in Use. It currently functions as the Pioneer Museum.
This building was erected pursuant to a resolution of the Board of County Commissioners and adopted on March 15, 1899. Construction of the courthouse began in 1899 and it was completed in 1903. Erected under the supervision of the following commissioners: Matt France, Sebastian Greenway, Melvin M. Sinton, William H. Fairall, James Doran, Frank L. Rouse and Charles W. Long.
The architect was A.J. Smith. The builder was Archie & Angus Gillis.
The site consists of 1 building located on 5 acres. The grounds are now called Alamo Square Park.
As a side note: There are currently 11 other listed waymarks on the 5 acre park surrounding the old courthouse.
