Originally known as the Market Cross House, the
Crooked House in Windsor is a quaint tea room and restaurant in the shadow of Windsor Palace.
Its unique shape occurred shortly after some timbers were replaced in 1718 with unseasoned green oak. Once the moisture left the wood, the house contorted into this unusual shape.
Having no bearing on the structure's integrity, the Crooked House is also the site for a secret passage from Windsor Palace which is said to have been used for King Charles II to sneak out and visit his mistress Nell Gwyn.
