This is the namesake fountain for the Fountain Square neighborhood in Indianapolis, Indiana. Sitting atop the fountain is the sculpture “The Pioneer Family” by Myra Reynolds Richards placed in 1924. In the 1950’s the fountain – which sits in the middle of a triangle intersection – was deemed a traffic hazard and removed. The statue was placed in a nearby park. In 1980, to re-establish the original character of the neighborhood, the fountain was re-built and the statue placed back on top of it.
