This is one of many granite posts used to mark points on the boundary lines between towns in Massachusetts, in this case, the Town of Hamilton and the Town of Ipswich. The letter "H" (for Hamilton) is inscribed on one side, and the letter "I" (for Ipswich) is on the opposite side. Portions of the characteristic orange paint band around the top can be seen.

This is one of five town-line survey markers located on Appleton Farms (658 acres) and the Appleton Farms Grass Rides (259 acres), and one of four survey markers on the west side of the RR track.

The two adjacent survey markers are H-I9 (WM6CJX), about 0.1 mile northwest, and H-I8 (WM6BND), about 0.3 mile southeast. There is an additional waymark in the field about 100 yards north of this survey marker. It is the Pigeon Hill Pinnacle. Be sure to check it out.

Good walking trails to the markers are available. The visitor parking area is about 1/2 mile west, on Highland Street. There are many more waymarks on the Farms property. See the "Nearest Waymarks" link near the bottom of this page. There are also at least four geocaches. Enjoy the Farms. Its a great place to visit.
Type of survey mark: Granite post, approximately eight inches square, and about three feet high.

What indicators are near the mark to help people identify where it is located?:
It is adjacent to a stone wall, and at the side of one of the trails. An electric fence and a very large pasture (the "Great Pasture") are on the other side of the wall. It is on the same trail, and next to the same stone wall, as H-I9 and H-I8.

What property is this mark defining?:
The boundary line between the towns of Hamilton and Ipswich.
