The first owner of Eastnor Castle - John Somers Cocks was a lieutenant colonel of the Worcester Yeomanry Cavalry who took part in the Napoleonic Wars.
His son fought with Wellington and was killed at Burgos during the Peninsular War.
The obelisk in the Deer Park opposite the castle was erected by the 1st earl to
commemorate his son.
