Don't mess with this guy! It packs a machine gun, as well as hand tools! He wears a U.S. Navy uniform, and he looks mad!
The statue stands on a rise in front of the Seebee Museum and Memorial Park. To get there, from the intersection of RI state route 403, U.S. 1, and Davisville Avenue, take Davisville Avenue for no more than 0.5 miles and to the bee on the left, near a Lowe's store. Turn left and park in the parking lot next to a row of Quonset Huts (part of the museum).
This bee had been at the headquarters for the Seebees at the Quonset Point Naval Airstation.
From December 2007 to October 2008, the bee was removed from the present location and housed in a warehouse to be completely repainted. The paint should last more than a decade.
The link provided below provides a history of the development of the logo for the Navy "Seabees", designed by Frank Iafrate, who happened to be at this location.
