This memorial to Joel Chandler Harris, born in Eatonton Dec. 9 1848 was constructed from three slave cabins found in Putnam County.

The museum is a log cabin made from two original Putnam County slave cabins. The building is similar to the one occupied by Uncle Remus, the lovable character made famous by Mr. Harris.

And it was a wonderful day when we came upon this Museum on US 441 in Eatonton, Georgia, birthplace of Joel Chandler Harris. I grew up on Uncle Remus and Br'er Rabbit! And who could forget the Disney Classic "Song of the South" inspired by the stories of Mr. Harris.
