The building was constructed in 1923 and was occupied by the bank until December, 1976 when the bank moved to a new, modern building further west on Main Street. The old building was subsequently used by Peerless Eagle Coal Company for office space until 1999. Since then, it has been occupied by two different eating places. Presently, the ground floor is the home of Dominic's Italian Chop House restaurant.
The old Nicholas County Bank building is important for the use of native, Lower Gilbert sandstone in its construction. It is also significant for its association with the Neo-Classical Revival style of architecture. Nicholas County Bank is historically significant for its association with the growth and development of the town of Summersville and Nicholas County, being the first bank in Summersville and the county. A copy of the original application for the building's inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places (in .pdf format) can be accessed by clicking the secondary website link near the bottom of this page.
For visitors wanting to see the interior of the building, the restaurant is open for lunch Monday thru Friday, from 11:00AM 'til 2:00PM, and it opens seven days a week at 5:00PM for dinner.
