Not all news is bad. Some times there is a happy ending.
On April 6, 2009, "Pack" one of the metal sculptures found in the Boston Public Garden, was reported missing by a ranger in the park. Word went out about the duckling's disappearance. On April 7, it was rediscovered. As the article states, "Police say the sculpture was found by residents at about 2:40 a.m. Tuesday. The duckling was next to a tree on a street corner not far from the garden."
Pack is part of a sculpture of the duck and ducklings featured in the story, "Make Way for Ducklings," by Robert McCloskey. In the story, Mrs. Mallard leads her ducklings to the pond to swim while the rest of the city stops to let them pass. Nancy Shone installed this sculpture in 1987 and, since then, the ducks have been extremely popular (as the shiny surfaces attest). Pack is the second to last duck in the line.
It is not the first time that one of these ducks has been stolen. This has occurred many times in the past. Most of the time, they have been found but at least one time the statue had to be replaced at the cost of thousands of dollars in effort. Hopefully, it is the last time that it is taken
This story was printed in several newspapers, including the Boston Herald and Daily News Transcript. It was also reported by all of the television news programs in the city.
