"The Wounded Warrior Project’s (WWP) Soldier Ride is a rehabilitative cycling program for wounded warriors and an advocacy program for today’s wounded warriors. For many of these combat-wounded veterans, Soldier Ride provides the first and important step in their return to an active lifestyle."
The Soldier Ride began in 2004 when Chris Carney from Long Island, New York, completed a coast-to-coast bicycle ride in support of the Wounded Warrior Project. This was the first of what has become an annual event. In 2005 and 2006, additional coast-to-coast rides were completed, each year with more wounded warriors participating.
In 2007 the format of the ride to a regional format to involve more wounded warriors and the public. In addition the rides have opened to registered riders, to enable the general public to ride with the wounded warriors and raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project.
