In 1843, Ira C. Alger built the first dam here in Southern Holly. This had been a significant step in the settling of the area.
This area was the site of the former Holly Milling Company and Village wells dating back to the mid 1840's. Later there was a power station.
The mills were sold to a William F. Hadley, who then sold to William Stiff around 1870.
Nowadays the dam is used to maintain the level of Stiff's Millpond.
We got about as close as we could to this dam. There's a fence with a no tresspassing sign.
