This statue is not far from the Abe Lincoln statue that greets you on the second street Capitol Complex. Mr. Douglas was Lincoln's opponent for the presidency. He is honored on the capitol grounds by his proximity to Lincoln.

The inscription on the statue were Douglas' last words to his children. It reads....."Tell them to obey the laws and support the Constitution of the United States."
