X-cave is one of many caves located in Carter Caves State Resort Park in Carter County, Kentucky, USA. Its a live cave right next to a dead cave where the middle crumbled so it sort of forms an X. This means it actually has 4 entrances. My pictures include 3 of these entrances.
X-cave is the perfect example of two vertical joint passages that was carved out by groundwater in a large layer of limestone bedding. On this tour you can view many beautiful cave formations including the largest formation on the park, which stands over 30 ft tall. The cave gets its name from the configuration of its passages, which seem to cross in the middle to form the letter "X."
