Carvers Gap is reached on Hwy TN143 from Roan Mountain, TN and NC261 from Bakersville, NC to meet here. It is a popular destination for the flowering Catawba rhododendron and flame azaleas, and also huckleberry picking in the early fall. The Appalachian Trail, which follows the border here, was rerouted in the 1950s to be in the Roan highlands.
Parking is available nearby with a pit toilet.
