The New Bedford Whaling Museum specializes in the history of whaling, whaling vessels, and the variety of whale species worldwide. There are a number of art collections relating to the whaling industry including paintings, pictures, journals, scrimshaw, harpoons and other artifacts. The museum also contains several whale skeletons that are on display in the main hall, a half-scale whaling ship (the Lagoda) and a full-size replica of a whaling ship's forcastle that the kids can climb on.
