El Polin Springs is a small spring that has been known since the early Ohlone Indians and Spanish inhabited the lands now known as the Presidio of San Francisco.

MacArthur Avenue is an access road to the springs and picnic areas nearby. At the end of MacArthur is a turn-around loop, where a small stream from the springs area is allowed to flow across the roadway. Here the roadway has been paved with cemented cobblestones, to prevent road erosion and give the stream a more attractive streambed.
