Long Description:
After his capture of Vicksburg in the Civil War, Grant took command of the entire Union forces, and helped to end the war in 1865. Grant became president in 1869, but it is for his tremendous military actions that he is honored with this statue which depicts him ready for battle. It was dedicated in 1891.

The statue overlooks Cannon Drive at the south end of the zoo.
