In July of 2006, as excavating was being done for a new freeway ramp, a mastodon bone was uncovered here. Construction was halted to give scientists a chance to recover as many bones and fossils as they could. They ended up with about 30% of the beast. Now, there is a rest stop here for the Clinton River Trail with an informational sign and this bony bench.
