It was originally built by Sir Ralph Verney for when he sat for the borough between 1680 and 1689.

Today's building was built in the 18th Century following the disastrous fire of Buckingham in 1725. The building is red brick with an attractive clock tower and golden swan on the top. Both the Town Hall and the Old Gaol were built in a bid to win back the Assizes. Now used as a conference and entertainment venue for weddings and exhibitions.
