Long Description:
The temple was designed by William Kent in 1734. Each of the 16 niches contain a bust by Rysbrack and Scheemakers.

William Shakespeare is commemorated with the following inscription:
'Whose excellent genius opened to him the whole heart of all the mines of fancy, all the stores of nature and gave him powers beyond all other writers to move, astonish and delight mankind.'
