Located at the entrance to Hidden Cove Park in Norton Shores, Michigan. A Vietnam War Memorial named, "Final Approach".
The aircraft is a UH-1 "Huey" helicopter. Aircraft number 958. This helicopter spent 3 years in Vietnam, attached to the 173d Airborne Brigade, their nickname was "Casper, the friendly Ghost". The nose of this chopper has Casper painted on it just as it did back in Nam. Today it is very faded, hard to see. The 173rd's main mission was to fly troops to areas of suspected activity - and hopefully, pick them up again. Muskegon-based Chapter 31 of the Vietnam Veterans of America helped put the chopper up there, they worked their back ends off raising money.
Dedicated in Fall of 1997.
