KQED first went on the air in 1957. In 2006,
San Jose's PBS station, KTEH, and KQED merged to to create Northern California Public Broadcasting (NCPB). They are now the most-watched public television and most-listened-to public radio broadcast in the country.
KQED also operates a radio station affiliated with the Public Broadcasting System.
