This statue was raised as a memorial to Albert, consort of Queen Victoria, by the City of London, using money donated by Mr Charles Oppenheim.

The prince is depicted in the uniform of a field marshal, raising his plumed hat in acknowledgment of a salute.

The statue is of bronze on a Ross of Mull granite plinth. An allegorical figure of History sits at the base.
