On top of a gently sloping grassy hill in Wellesley center is a stone structure that has the appearance of a castle or chateau. This structure is the town hall. Wellesley split from Needham in 1881.
Horation Hunnewell, a wealthy businessman, donated the land and the costs to build a new town hall as the previous one was too small (this structure, most recently used as the Wellesley Country Club, was just razed October 2008). The building was completed in 1886.
The town hall is open Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
