Long Description:(The following information is from the ocpl.gov Web site.)
The Upstairs Library
The main public area is located on the upper level. This space is
highlighted by a beautiful vaulted ceiling, skylights, and
up-lighting to enhance the feeling of spaciousness. The circulation
and information desks are constructed of cherry wood, blending with
the bold, natural colors throughout the building. This level is
designed to serve the preschool population, young adults (15+) and
adults.
Preschool
Our preschool population can enjoy the Story Room, where they will
hear favorite stories, see puppet shows, and share in presentations
designed especially for them. They will also enjoy the picture and
easy reader books in their own special section of the
collection.
15+
For our older teens, the library offers a young adult collection -
designed with them in mind - and a quiet room for intense,
uninterrupted study. The teens will also have input into library
activities through a teen council, which will offer suggestions for
programs, provide tutoring for younger students, and possibly be a
source of candidates for paid page positions in the library.
Adult Services
Adults will enjoy the full range of services provided in the OCPL
system, including public access computers, reference, non-fiction
and fiction collections, etc. READ-OC, The library's adult literacy
program, will have a dedicated room in the library. Library
sponsored community programming will be offered to serve the
pleasure of the adults of the community as well as the children and
young adults.
The Downstairs Library
The lower level is a soaring two-story space, accented by the
staircase descending from the adult level. The collection, selected
and provided by Capistrano Unified School District and the Orange
County Public Library, is specifically designed to serve the
information and recreational reading needs of children in
elementary and middle school.
Services
Served by the Children's librarian, this area will offer the usual
school library and instructional media services during the school
day, traditional public library children's services in the
afternoons, evenings and Saturday. Public Access Computers located
on this level are filtered.
Access to this space is restricted to school use during regular
school hours. Material in the downstairs collection can be
retrieved for members of the public by the library staff if needed
while school is in session.
