The Rock Island Trail follows the abandoned Chicago and Rock Island Railroad between the towns of Peyton and Falcon, Colorado. It is part of the nationwide Rail to Trails Program. This 9.2 mile, gravel surfaced trail runs parallel to Highway 24 and provides a safe passage way for non-motorized use.
The trail is level the entire way and crosses over several old railroad bridges. There is plentiful safe parking just north of this traihead in a dirt area adjacent to the road.
They stopped pulling up the old rails 20 feet past the end of the trail.

There are 9 Geocaches hidden along the trail and 4 hidden on side trails.
