This chimera almost blends in with the rest of the building. It is a face with large dog-like ears and hint of a main, with its fanged mouth open and clamped on a ring. The chimeras are found at the base of each column that surround a large window. Note that the faces have been carved from mortared brick (though they appear to be different from the structure brick).

The Bacon Free Library is on Eliot Street within a triangular plot of land bounded by Eliot, Pleasant, and Mill Streets. The grounds are public, so you can walk right up to them. The building dates back to about 1880. Thus, the brick gargoyles likely were installed when the building was built.
