Designed by Oliver S. Compton, this building was envisioned as a money-maker for the Odd Fellows. The second floor was designed for meeting space, while the first and third floors would be leased to retailers and other fraternal groups. By 1949, the IOOF had vacated the second floor (but continued to meet on the ground level until the early 1970s). After the Odd Fellows left, the structure was occupied by the Williams Company, whose name still appears on various signs.
Featuring tile and copper details, the exterior stands out as a superb example of commercial brick design. The interior space is surprisingly versatile. It features arched windows, and a 3,400 square foot auditorium. The lobby, stairs, and elevators were recently updated, and the results of a recent seismic retrofitting are clearly visible.
Today, the building is occupied by various tenants, including a restaurant and dance studio. Numerous other restaurants are nearby, as is the Fullerton train station. The area may have undergone signficant change, but the charm and history of this enduring building remain.
