On the corner of May and Pickering Streets, there is a brick building which is currently a senior residential building. From the intersection, walk along Pickering Street toward a playground. As you pass by the brick building on the left, you see that the building is actually 'C' shaped and forms a three-sided courtyard. In each of the two corners at the top is a concrete form that reads "Erected A.D. 1914 - Stephen Palmer School."

The Stephen Palmer School was an elementary school for the town until the 1970s or 1980s. It is named for a Unitarian minister who gave the "Centennial Sermon" in 1811 on the 100th Anniversary of the town. The building has been since renovated into resident units, and the Stephen Palmer Senior Center/Needham Council on Aging is in the basement.
Year of construction: 1914
