For over 50 years New England Mobile Book Fair has been in existence. The place has been on Needham Street in Newton, MA, providing books at good discounts.
The building is unassuming from the outside. It is in a concrete block structure that has few windows. The blue sign is visible from Needham Street. The driveway is a very narrow passage between the bookstore and the block of stores next to it. The entrance is a single door. Once you enter, you might become overwhelmed by the stacks of books on the right side, and the lines of shelves ahead. The place is so large that paper maps are available to provide some help. There are general areas for fiction and non-fiction. Most of the non-fiction is sub categorized by topic and then by publisher. Most of the fictional areas are by publisher with separation by adult and childrens books. If the map doesn't work, then staff will cheerfully help you find the book you are looking for, or order it for you.
Be prepared to stay awhile. As the web site states, people often say, "I only came for one book." Recently, the book store has branched out with Jessica's Biscuit - ecookbooks.com, which is a portal for cook books.
The store was founded some time about 1957 by Lou Strymish, who bought a book reviewer's business who used to sell books from their car. The company had a permanent building in West Roxbury until 1964 when it burned down. They moved to Needham Street and have been on that road since. Their current building at 82-84 Needham Street has a space of 32,000 square feet!
