History: Sacred Heart Church and School are a non-Indian parish and school that have had some Navajo Indian parishioners and students. 1910-1990s Franciscans (St. John the Baptist Province, Cincinnati, Ohio) established and administered Sacred Heart Church 1919-1990s Ursulines (Congregation of Paris, Mount St. Joseph Province, Maple Mount, Kentucky) established and staffed Sacred Heart School (Navajo); some Indians 1990s-present Diocesan priests have administered Sacred Heart Franciscans from Sacred Heart Church attended St. Francis of Assisi Mission (Apache), Lumberton, 1910-1940s (became a parish). Ursulines from Sacred Heart School staffed Waterflow School and Academy, Waterflow, 1919-1950s; some Navajo Indian students.
