On the concrete footing of an iron railroad bridge that spans Mass. SR-128/I-95 is a pair of survey disks located within a couple feet of one another. This entry is for Mass. DPW 10004, which is the lower of the two disks.

To reach these disks, you can travel either from the west or the east over the unused railroad tracks. The safer route is likely from the west. A parking lot is located near the car wash and the WCVB TV station. (Note, the railroad tracks have completely rusted over, and thus, appear to have not been used for months or years. However, I do not know if they have been abandoned. Please use caution when walking). Another way to access the disk may be from a parking lot for the business, Careerbuilder.com.

The disk is located at the southwest end of the railroad bridge, approximately 4 feet north west of the north rail and a few inches from the end of the bridge. Around the edge of the disk are the words, "Massachusetts Dept of Public Works," with the warning, "Penalty Provided for Disturbing this Marker." Inside an inscribed circle are the words "ELEV" and "BM NO" and the Serial Number "10004."

The future of this marker is in doubt. There is a project to widen Route 128. Will this bridge remain or will it be removed, with the footing? The project is going one elsewhere, but in the next year or two work in this area will begin.
